A studio printed model sheet from the Walt Disney Studios animated short "Broken Toys" (1935). Featuring the design standards for the Mammy doll, the model sheet was created at the studio and used during the animation process to ensure character consistency among animators. This film was made during a time when foreign and minority cultures were parodied and caricatured for comedy. The use of stereotypes for jokes was not recognized as an insensitive practice, the way that it is now. Characters like this would never be suggested in a modern Disney film. Measuring 10”x13” overall and with the character image measuring 9”x11.75”, the model sheet is in very good condition with wear from age and handling including discoloration, edge and corner wear, and staple holes.
