The Incredible Mr. Limpet

Van Eaton Galleries is proud to present a special release of never-before-seen original production cels and production backgrounds from the beloved 1964 live-action/animated feature film, "The Incredible Mr. Limpet."

Loosely based on the 1942 novel by Theodore Pratt, the film stars talented character actor Don Knotts as a heroic man-turned-fish who helps the Allies in winning WWII. If a talking fish wasn’t enough, its 1964 release was held at the Weeki Wachee Underwater Theater, famed home of the Weeki Wachwee Mermaids, making it the world’s first underwater movie premiere! But Warner Bros didn’t simply rely on a talented, versatile cast and promotional gimmicks to ensure the success of this film. The animation was produced by a veritable "Who's Who" of legends in the field, including Robert McKimson (Director), Maurice Noble, Hawley Pratt, Bill Tytla, Art Babbitt, Art Leonardi, and Phil Roman.

The collection of cels and backgrounds featured here come from the estate of John C. Rose, the co-writer and producer of the feature. Until now, only a handful of original cels and original backgrounds from the film have surfaced. This collection represents some of the finest images we have seen offered, and we are thrilled to be able to share a piece of this classic with you. Add something "Incredible" to your collection today!
