A striking original preliminary background from the Walt Disney Studios animated short Ferdinand the Bull (1938). Featuring the entrance to the bullring, the hand-painted background was created at the studio and used during the animation process. The image is a rare piece of animation that manages to capture an entire portion of the film's storyline in a singular frame. The overall layout of the image is nearly identical to the final background that appears in the film, but there are small differences to the stone work and structure of the buildings. Measuring 10"x12" overall and with an image area measuring 8.5"x11", the preliminary background is in very good condition with notable tape residue, has been trimmed previously. Artwork from this beloved classic is cherished for its significance to the studio and to Walt Disney himself. A piece such as this that also exhibits the amount of work that was put forth in every step of the development process leading to the final film are a testament to the man and the studio.
