“Watership Down” Black Rabbit of Inle Production Cel and Background (1978) - ID: jun26014

A production cel and background setup from the Nepenthe Studios animated cult classic "Watership Down" (1978). Featuring the Black Rabbit of Inle, the hand-painted cel and background were created at the studio and used during the animation process. The piece is an actual frame of animation that was photographed and appears in the film. The cel is seen at about 53:06 when Fiver is speaking to the spirit. The background appears to be one that was cut from the final film, as the scene number is blacked out, but it is very similar to the one in this scene and seems to be from the same overall part of the film. Measuring 10.5”x13” overall, with the character image measuring 3”x1.5”, the setup is in very good condition with light edge and corner wear.
