Released in 1955, this was the first animated feature filmed in Cinemascope.
It was also the first Disney animated feature not based on a published
novel or story. The tale of Lady was based on the family Cocker Spaniel
who was the family pet of the late, great Joe Grant, who gave his wife
the puppy in a hatbox on Christmas Day, just as depicted in the film.
